Presently, I am three weeks from my graduation ceremony! Several years of late night classes, dissertation writing, and holding my APA manual tightly, is coming to an end. I had an old colleague ask me a few days ago, “So, what are you trading in all that writing and research for?”
What am I trading it for? Hum…good question. I think the answer is MORE RESEARCH!
This year, I will finally teach adults (well, almost) exclusively. I have made the shift to high school and college instruction. My college students will be taught in an fully asychonous online environment! My high school students don’t know it yet, but they will be hybrid classes. I want to integrate the use of technology at least 25% of the time, hopefully more like 50%. I visualize this through discussion forums, interactive digital media, video conferencing, and a wide variety of Instructional Technology mediums.
This website will be devoted to exploring technology tools, developing a discourse about them, and evaluting the effectiveness of different tools. This is where all of the wonderful research classes come into play. As a teacher researcher, I plan to look at my student’s engagement levels and performance on summative and formative assessments to determine levels of motivation, accessibility, output, and sheer student opinion! At the end of this school year, I would like to write more formally about these findings and experiences.
As I make discoveries and mistakes, hopefully, I can take all of you along with me!
