Survey Monkey is a program that allows you to create a myriad of different types of surveys, send them out via email, facebook, embed code, or bookmark on a class computer. Survey Monkey is often used by researchers and marketers. There are some great implications for the classroom as well. Because the data is available to run analytics, it provides teachers with the instant ability to run item analyses, track student progress, assess area of weaknesses, and get a class profile of what your students can and cannot do based on survey responses.
Survey Monkey is also a way for students to create their own surveys. Students can gauge their parents understanding of a topic, study for a midterm or AP exam, or review collaboratively. Students can also be a part of the curriculum. Students can develop their own unit questions and create study guides or class assessments.
Survey Monkey is also an excellent way to gathers subjective data from students, peers, or colleagues. When I present a major paper, I often provide attendees with a survey to gather their opinions, thoughts, questions, and ideas. Survey Monkey makes this easy and puts the data right in your hands–er, your screen.
